May 2026 MGOC Garden Tour

I volunteer at the Orange Coast College Horticulture department. I advise them on their cycad plantings, have donated plant material, and do some pruning. They sometimes give me plant material in return.

The “blob” was a gift from the private collection of a staff member. It is, ready for this?, Deuterocohnia brevifolia. It is a bromeliad, or rather a large colony of bromeliads. It’s from South America. In our yard it is growing on an elevated pile of sand, gravel and rock, well above the soil line.
