The story of the staghorn in the tree

The larger of the two staghorns in the Magnolia tree belonged to Kim’s grandma Elmina. We took it home after she passed and it was 40 years old then in 1986. So it’s about 80 years old now. We hung it up in the tree and it lived there for 30 years.

About ten years ago we saw that it was struggling and started to think about ways to manage it. We settled on a plan to attach the cables holding the plant to an electrical winch, so that we could lower the plant down where we could service it. And that is what you see. The staghorn goes up and down at the touch of a button.
